Beats | New Year & Chill
Every Friday, our Music Ed Vicky James rounds up the hottest artists, releases and music news of the week.
Oh hey New Year! I’ve been waiting for you...
Whether you spent last night at a house party, cool new bar or warehouse rave, I’m sure you’re not feeling 100% yourself this morning.
And in these times of need, there’s nothing better to binge on that Majestic Casual. If you don’t follow this YouTube channel, you need to start… like seriously now. As the name suggests, it’s the ultimate in in chilled electronic, RnB and neo-soul tunes you can just sit back and listen to.
From previewing the best new remixes to showcasing tracks from the hottest emerging artist, here’s my top 5 Majestic Casual vids from the past 12 months…
Tom Misch – Nightgowns (feat. Loyle Carner)
I LOVE Tom Misch… there’s nothing he can’t do right in my eyes. From the upbeat Beautiful Escape to the incredible The Journey and this soulful hip hop number, get following him on Spotify ASAP.
Bearface – Hotline Bling
Drake’s Hotline Bling has had its fair share of remixes, and I think this one’s the most laidback I’ve heard to date. OK, so you can’t exactly do the dance that launched a thousand memes to it, but it’s definitely easy on the ears.
Kehlani – Til The Morning (Snakehips Remix)
Kehlani is the coolest 20 year old we’ve heard in a while, hailing from California, USA. Her sweet, emotive vocals are complemented by Snakehips' 'broken' synthy production that fuses elements of RnB and electro to a sort of undone perfection.
Etta Bond x Chris Loco – Seen And Never Heard
Brit girl Etta Bond is tipped for major success in 2016. Teaming up with Chris Loco on Seen And Never Heard, it's a relaxed RnB jam that's lyrically empowering but softly produced.
Kwabs – Cheating On Me (Tom Misch Refix feat. Zak Abel)
We heart Kwabs at boohoo HQ, shooting him for boohooMAN back in August. This ‘refix’ by Tom Misch (yep, he’s here again) featuring Zak Abel is the smoothest track of the lot but may just draw an emotional New Year tear or two.
