Music Fix | Ady Suleiman
With a new release featuring Joey Bada$$ under his belt, Ady Suleiman is one to watch. He's been picked up by the likes of Beat mag and Hunger TV, so we thought it was about time we got the 411 on one of the UK's freshest new talents...
Describe your sound
I guess it’s a unique blend of R’n’B, reggae, hip-hop and soul, but it’s really difficult to describe and categorise because it depends on the song. The song dictates everything and some songs take more influence from different genres; I would say that's what is key. What unifies my music is my voice.
How’s the tour going?
F**ckin’ sick! I've loved it so much. I have felt so much love over the course of the tour, it has been a great experience and I'm just excited to keep growing, performing and putting out more music.
You collaborated with Joey Bada$$, any more collabs on the horizon?
For sure, just can’t say much about them just yet. I got a remix coming with Winta James, which sounds dope so excited to drop that.
Who would be your dream collaboration, dead or alive?
Jimi Hendrix and/or Bob Marley, even to sing backing vocals for them would be ridiculous!
Who inspires you musically?
The big one is probably Amy Winehouse, but so many artists have inspired me - Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Bob Marley and Ray Charles.
Highlight of your career so far?
Winning Giles Peterson’s Breakthrough Act of the Year! It’s my first and only award in music and to get it from Giles - guy that I have listened to on radio for years was dope - was very unexpected.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Anderson. Paak and Donny Hathaway are on repeat at the moment.
What can we expect to see next?
You'll probably catch me this summer playing festivals like Parklife in Manchester. I want to travel to Europe and do some shows out there too. I'll be dropping my next single very soon, re-shooting my video and then the album will be out this year so lots going on.
