Sophie Hannah Richardson

Self confessed mermaid wannabe and rocking the green hair to match, Sophie Hannah Richardson is a fashion and beauty blogger based in London. We caught up with her to talk all things blogosphere, Insta and the perf selfie!

Did you always see yourself being a blogger?

No way! After studying photography at uni I then went on to explore fashion styling doing lots of internships etc. Then I kind of fell into a social media job and enjoyed it and that's how I discovered bloggers. I didn't really know what it was about at first but the more I looked, the more I wanted to do it.

What course did you do at uni?

I studied Fashion with Photography at Southampton Solent University. It was a really fun course and I learnt a lot of skills which have all actually really helped with blogging. Being able to take photos, edit and shoot videos without having to teach myself has been a dream. I know a lot of other bloggers that have to watch YouTube tutorials and train themselves and so it takes them hours to produce content. I'm lucky I don't have to do that, especially because with working full time, I just haven't had the time.

What are your favourite type of blog posts to write?

I love writing about how I've styled an outfit and why, just in case I give anyone inspiration or styling ideas.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?

Being noticed for doing something you love. I've always had a passion for styling and makeup and so it's amazing when people take notice. It's so rewarding, especially when you get big companies contact you or big press names such as the Daily Mail featuring you. It's crazy!

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?

Blogging whilst working full time. I've done it for over 2 years now and it's been tough. It's stressful trying to manage your time. It was OK at first as I didn't have much of a following or a decent blog but overtime everything has grown and this year I've grown by over 80K on Instagram so it's been the last few months I've struggled.

Blogging or Insta? Do you have a fave?

Instagram is my favourite. Nobody really wants to read anymore. They want something visual and quick and Instagram is the perfect channel for that.

Top selfie tip?

Take about 20 and you'll have at least a few favourites to pick from!

As a self confessed wannabe mermaid, if you could be a one for a day, what is the first thing you’d do?

I don't actually like the sea! I'm petrified of it! So I think I'd just stay on the beach and sun bathe in my shell bra and mermaid tail.

If you had to dye your hair again, what colour would it be?

Hmm, this is a tricky one. I'd love to dye my hair all yellow, but I'm not sure if I'd suit it and it also wouldn't be very mermaid like!

What is your advice for getting into your dream career?

Keep at it. Whatever you want to go into don't leave your dream behind. You might have to take a few different routes to get somewhere but you will.
