10 Films Everyone Must See At Least Once In Their Lives...

by Charlotte Briggs

Good films are like good friends. They’re always there to pick you up when you’re feeling down, can cure any kind of boredom and sometimes make you laugh uncontrollably.

I’m a huge film addict, and one of my favourite pastimes is procrastinating from my dissertation and binging on Netflix (not that I would recommend my lifestyle choices!)

So what are the must watch films that everyone must see at least once? Grab your popcorn guys, because I’ve created the ultimate, bingetastic, can’t-live-without film list.

1. The First Wives Club

The plot focuses around the lives of three women who get the sassiest of revenge against their cheating ex-husbands, whilst making a positive difference in society. Plus, it has Goldie Hawn in it. Don’t miss it.

2. Pulp Fiction

Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece first graced our screens in the 90’s and has since become a set cult classic. It’s worth watching just for Mia Wallis’ seriously edgy hair goals, but it’s Samuel L Jackson who steals the spotlight.

3. Almost Famous

Almost Famous follows a wannabe journalist as he tours with fictitious band Stillwater through the rock n roll world of the 70s. The infamous Tiny Dancer scene alongside Kate Hudson immortalising the Penny Lane coat makes this movie one of my personal favourites.

4. True Romance

Another Tarantino classic, True Romance is an ironic love story that showcases some wicked 80s fashion amongst other things. With awesome plot twists and excellent cinematography, it’s not one to miss.

5. Pretty Woman

One of the best rom-coms of all time, I paid my dues to this film last Halloween by dressing up as Vivian Ward. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere paved the way for #couplegoals everywhere, and it’s a fantastic storyline that’ll have you rooting for the characters in an old Hollywood movie kinda way.

6. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn is my icon and none of her films illustrate her acting talents more than Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Although you might despise Holly Golightly from the get-go, as the film progresses you begin to understand her flaws and applaud her for making her own way in life.

7. Forrest Gump

Or any Tom Hanks film because he is a God amongst mortals. Besides from other works such as The Green Mile and Philadelphia, this is the one that really got me in the feels. It’s an incredible story that’ll make you experience all ends of the emotional spectrum in less than a few hours.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

Based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, this film encompasses the two best things of the 90s – Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. Amazing.

9. Dead Poet’s Society

This is the only film on this list that I haven’t watched, but I’ve heard it’s unmissable and one of the best performances by late actor Robin Williams.

10. Heather’s

The original Mean Girls with a spin, Heather’s is the combination of a high school chick flick mixed with horror plot twists bound to keep you on your toes.

Stay tuned for Part Two!
