Oh Hella, Coachella!
Say bye bye to those January blues because festival season is oh-so-close we can almost feel it. And with the Coachella line-up just released, our head is firmly in the LA clouds. Whether you’ve managed to nab a golden ticket or if you’ll be living the ‘Chella dream through Insta all weekend, our music ed Vicky runs down the acts you need to catch alongside some celeb style inspo to get you preppin' your festival wardrobe already...
Brit faves Foals are top of my list – even if you’re not into indie (which I’m not), they’re the ultimate feel good act to lose yourself to in the Cali sun. If under-the-radar is more your thing, check out Lapsley, twins Ibeyi and SG Lewis; I caught the former two at The Great Escape last year and they’re the perfect acts to ease you into the weekend.
By night, catch headliners LCD Soundsystem who are making their Coachella comeback after five years off the scene. And I can’t really forget our boys Years & Years – the Kings of pop are guaranteed to get you on your feet.
If you’re into some sweet reggae sounds like me, then look no further than Chronixx and Protoje. Saturday is all about seriously good vibes, so head over (or listen out for) Shamir – he’s Michael Jackson meets Prince with a heavy sprinkle of sass.
I definitely won’t be hold(ing) back for dreamboat James Bay as he plays on Sat… and is it just me or does he look like a cleaner and hotter version of Harry Styles? My #girlcrush Grimes will no doubt be delivering a killer set, so Saturday is looking like a bit of a love in. I’ll be finishing the night off by catching Nina Kraviz and Disclosure – I think you should too.
If you’ve made it through, high five. Everyone knows a festival is about endurance. I’m stoked that new girl Alessia Cara made the list; her soulful R&B vocals will ease me through the day. Want to try something different? Head to Hudson Mohawke and take a listen to last year’s album Lantern in prep (Very First Breath is my fave).
The disco-loving diva within me definitely won’t be missing Soul Clap. They're the happiest electro duo on the planet – I caught them a few times in 2015 (the best was at Gottwood) and they seriously brought the boogie. If you’ve got any energy after this, I’d head to Maceo Plex for the best deep house of the weekend.
