Recipe: Chocolate and Orange Cake

Ingredients

For the chocolate/orange layers
• 280g flour
• 1 sachet baking powder
• 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
• 100g caster sugar
• 100g soft butter
• 120g yoghurt
• 100ml squeezed orange and zest of 1 orange
For the chocolate layer
• 140g flour
• 1 egg
• 1/2 sachet baking powder
• 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
• 50g caster sugar
• 50g soft butter
• 60g yoghurt
• 100ml milk
For the glaze:
• 250g soft butter
• 200g chocolate (Caribbean bean 66%, Valrhona)
• 300g icing sugar

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F.
2. Put the flour, baking powder and the cocoa powder into a mixing bowl
3. In another large bowl whisk together the egg and white sugar. Add the softened butter and mix until smooth. Add the yoghurt and the milk previously mixed together.
4. Incorporate the dry ingredients progressively
5. Repeat the same steps for the chocolate/orange cake but replace the milk with the orange juice and zest.
6. Pour the mix into 3 cake tins of the same size already greased and lined (or 2 for the chocolate/orange mix to then slide it and 1 for the chocolate mix)
7. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes and leave the cakes to cool in the tins
