This Week We're Loving | Jack Garratt

Every Friday, our Music Ed Vicky James rounds up the hottest artists, releases and music news of the week.

If you haven't heard of him yet, then you need to get in the know, as Jack Garratt officially scoops the top spot as the BBC's Sound of 2016.

After catching him on the Vevo stage at The Great Escape last year, he's been on our radar for the past 12 months. And it seems we're not the only ones who have fallen for the modest 24 year old from Bucks... he's up for the Brits Critics' Choice and MTV's Brand New too!

Wanna know more? Here's everything you need to know about the man behind the beard...

Real name: Jack Garratt.

Hails from: Buckinghamshire, UK.

Genre: It's hard to say really. Soulful vocalist, mulit-instrumentalist... Garratt defines his own genre of music that's experimental yet meaningful.

Latest release: Breathe Life (watch it above), although his debut album Phases drops 1st Feb - pre-order it here.

You'll like him if you like: If you scroll through Spotify, you'll notice the likes of Honne, Raleigh Ritchie and Tom Misch. It's safe to say he fits in this indefinable new age of artists who are making music that they (and everyone else) believes in, rather than following a norm. His most notable comparison has to be James Blake though.

Catch him this year at: He's touring Stateside Feb-March, returning to homesoil in April playing some mega venues across the UK, from Manchester's Albert Hall to Brixton Academy.

Stalk him: Listen on Spotify or Soundcloud and follow him on Twitter @jackgarratt.

And as for the rest of the BBC's Sounds of 2016, it looks like this...

2 - Alessia Cara

3 - NAO (a boohoo fave)

4 - Blossoms

=5 - WSTRN & Mura Masa
