Dark Romance

If there's ever a season to embrace decadence, it's this one. Super rich velvet, opulent embroidery and intricate lace details give stand-out party looks a vintage twist.

Taking influence from Hollywood glamour old and new (think Keira Knightley in Anna Karenina), this trend re-invents imperial dressing with a cooler, more wearable edge.

On the red carpet, the Delevingne sisters do it best; pairing one show-stopping piece with modern accessories, flawless makeup and soft tousled hair.

Playing with sheer and solid textures (as seen at Alberta Ferretti) is an easy way to embrace the dark side without going for full-on Gothic drama. Think mesh paneling and flashes of flesh that'll complement all skin tones.

Want a change from your LBD? Try out ruby reds in luxe finishes like brocade, adding a touch of metallic shimmers and throw-on faux fur.
