When boohoo Met James TW...
This week, we caught up with singer-songwriter (and absolute babe) James TW a.k.a James Taylor-Watts.
After the release of his debut EP, First Impressions, last year, he's gone on to be the sole support for Shawn Mendes' sold out world tour, perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and has just dropped his new track, Ex - which we've had on repeat at the office. Hard to believe he's only nineteen, right?
Here's what went down when we asked him some of life's big questions...
How did it all start for you?
Music started for me when I was 10 years old. My dad bought a drum kit and I just started to playing it - it soon became something I felt really passionate about. He was in a wedding band and the day before one of their shows the drummer got sick so I stepped in. I still remember playing that show to this day - it was great. After that, I became the drummer of the band for the next five years.
What does your typical day look like?
My typical day involves either flying, performing, recording or doing interviews. I never have to get up too early but when the day starts it's very busy and full on.
Describe your sound in three words…
Honest, original and authentic.
What was your most memorable gig?
Drumming with my dad’s wedding band when I was ten.
What did you have on your playlist growing up?
It was mainly Damien Rice, Maroon 5 and Muse.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Just the Same by Bruno Major.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met?
It’s gotta be Jon Bellion.
If you could collab with anyone who would it be and why?
Norah Jones because of her musicality and her voice. Her voice is amazing!
What does 2017 have in store for you?
Definitely some more new songs. Then I’ll be touring some more and turning 20.
What advice would you give anyone wanting to get into music?
I'd say try writing your own songs. The industry isn't short of great voices or players. It's always looking for great songwriters first. And to trust your gut instinct when writing - don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone.
